Ali G

Dis still be worthy of a Webby!

Nominated for a 2005 Webby finalist in the "Best Practices" category (we lost to Google), The Ali G micro site was designed to showcase the arrival of comedian Ali G on HBO and build awareness of the show among young, hip 18-34 year old males. The show features an off-color English comedian interviewing and consequently expelling his own unique brand of unique humor on unknowing U.S. personalities ranging from farmers to presidential candidates.

In researching the interests of our target audience, we focused on creating a site that would encourage people to explore various facets of Ali G by entertaining with interactivity. Highlights of the site include a custom music mixer, e-cards, video clips from the show, a photo section, and “Da Translator” – a page in which users can type a message in English and instantaneously translate that message into speech used by Ali G. Translated messages could also be emailed to friends.

We also wanted to allow users every opportunity to share their online experience with others and create word-of-mouth buzz, so we built and combined different elements of the site to act as viral components. Whether it’s sending unique flip-it e-cards, creating and emailing custom music mixes, or emailing messages typed in the translator; users experience engaging and potentially viral interactivity, as well as gain insight and awareness into the world of the comedians three characters: Ali G, Borat or Bruno.
